Authorities responded to an oil spill in the Houston Ship Channel and were trying to determine its cause.

The Coast Guard said it received a report of the spill about
12:40 a.m. Saturday. The ship channel remained open, but officials
urged vessels to keep their speed down to minimize their wake.

The Coast Guard said an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew from
Air Station Houston was on the scene, as well as marine response
investigators from the Coast Guard's Houston-Galveston sector.

The spill was contained with a boom.

The cause was under investigation.
