A couple is dead after a plane crashed in Fredericksburg Thursday afternoon.

John Kasper lives about half a mile from the crash site. He says he heard it happen.

"I was in the shop, just sitting around, and I heard a boom. I came outside and I didn't see anything at first and all of a sudden there was a cloud of smoke" he said.

A single engine Cessna 182 had burst into flames in a pasture. The two people on board died. Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Jason Reyes identified the victims as 43-year-old Donald Frosch, and 41-year-old Jeanne Frosch. The couple is from Mansfield.

According to Donald's facebook page, they got married in September 2009. They're also an active couple. Among the wreckage we saw golf clubs, and a triathlon training guide. Now the work begins to find out what caused the crash that took their lives.

Among some of the pieces the National Transportation Safety Board is going to have to analyze are some pieces that are severely burned. There are hundreds of pieces scattered across the debris field, about the size of a quarter of a football field.

The Federal Aviation Administration is on scene doing a preliminary investigation of the site. The potential causes they'll examine are the pilot, mechanical issues with the plane, and weather. A state trooper on the scene says at the time it was drizzling and foggy.

The Frosch's final destination was the Gillespie County airport. The couple was about two miles away when the plane went down.
