The State Department has issued an evacuation notice for all Americans in the country.
They will be transported by ferry to the Mediterranean Island of Malta.
Notification came late Tuesday, evacuations starting at 9 AM Libyan time.
It will be a first come first serve basis for those boarding the vessel, with priority given to those with medical emergencies or severe medical conditions.
The evacuation comes after fears of a Libyan Civil War, the government violently cracking down on opponents of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.
Gadhafi plans to fight to "fight on to his last drop of blood," and die a "martyr."
