Hot, windy conditions continue to fan wildfires across the Southwest.

In eastern Arizona, the Wallow fire has burned nearly a half-million acres.

But the U.S. Forest Service says firefighters have it 38 percent contained.

That's been enough to allow the residents in the community of Alpine to return home.

Another fire, this one south of Sierra Vista, is nearing 20,000 acres.

The U.S. Forest Service says the Monument Fire is 15 percent

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office says about 3,000 total homes and 12,000 people have been evacuated so far, while about 50 homes have been damaged or destroyed.

Officials are reporting progress in battling a wildfire in northeastern New Mexico.

All remaining evacuation orders have been lifted for communities threatened by the Track fire burning along the Colorado border. It's charred nearly 28,000 acres and is 45 percent contained.
