U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is paying her respects to South African icon Nelson Mandela.

Clinton and a small group flew today to the 94-year-old Mandela's home village, where they were reminiscing and having a small private lunch with Mandela and his wife.

Mandela, a Nobel peace laureate who spent 27 years in prison for fighting racist white rule, has retired from public life.
