Obama Team Wrongly Says Romney Moves Goal Posts

A spokesman for President Barack Obama's campaign is accusing Mitt Romney of moving the goal posts on unemployment. Actually, that's a fumble of the facts.

Romney told Time magazine in an interview published Wednesday that he would bring unemployment to 6 percent, down from the current 8.1 percent.

Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt told reporters that Romney was switching his position away from a goal of 4 percent unemployment. LaBolt was trying to remind voters that Romney has switched positions on other issues, such as abortion and gay rights.

But this isn't a flop-flop.

Romney said last month that any unemployment number above 4 percent "is not cause for celebration." But his economic proposal released last year calls for 5.9 percent unemployment by 2016. That's in line with his latest remarks.
