LOS ANGELES -- Rodney King, whose beating by police officers in 1991 was captured on videotape, exacerbating racial tensions in Los Angeles, has been found dead.
A publicist for King confirmed to CBS Station KCBS that he has died at the age of 47.
It was not immediately clear how King died.
Reuters is reporting that his body was found at the bottom of a pool, with no signs of foul play.
King became known worldwide when a videotape recording of his beating and arrest by LAPD officers was made public. The officers involved in that incident were acquitted the following year.
The announcement of the verdict led to the 1992 Los Angeles riots which left more than 50 people dead.
