Mitt Romney is looking to get back on the winning track in the Republican presidential race at today's caucuses in Maine.
Looking to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat, Romney has stepped up efforts to court local Republicans in a contest that has effectively narrowed to Romney and Ron Paul. The Texas congressman is looking to prove he can win, period. His strategy is based on winning smaller caucus states.
Neither Newt Gingrich nor Rick Santorum is actively competing in Maine.
Meanwhile, the Conservative Political Action Conference is taking a straw poll of Republican presidential candidates at its Washington meeting today. The candidates seeking votes competed yesterday to present themselves as most conservative and most opposed to Obama's health care law.
