Search Continues for More Clues in Terror Plot

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama's counterterrorism adviser says officials are "trying to get a better handle" on the plot that put bombs aboard two cargo planes.

Deputy national security adviser John Brennan says it would be imprudent to assume there aren't other potential package bombs like the ones pulled from planes in England and the United Arab Emirates.

Brennan also says it's not clear what the targets were. The bombs were in packages addressed to synagogues in the Chicago area, but Brennan says they could have been remotely detonated while in the air.

He says forensic analysis indicates that the bombs were made by the same person who built the devices used in the failed bombing on a Detroit-bound airliner last Christmas and the attack on Saudi Arabia's counterterrorism chief last year.

U.S. intelligence officials believe the bombmaker is a Saudi man linked to al-Qaida's Yemen branch.

Brennan appeared on the Sunday interview programs.

Two women in custody in Yemen, more suspects sought

SAN'A, Yemen (AP) - Police in Yemen are looking for additional suspects in the mailing of package bombs addressed to Chicago-area synagogues.

They already have in custody a female computer engineering student who's suspected of mailing the packages. Her mother has also been detained.

According to a Yemeni rights activist, the woman's university colleagues say she's not known to be involved in any political activity or have any ties to Islamic groups.

Yemeni officials point to additional suspects who are believed to have used forged documents and ID cards.

U.S. officials say suspects in the plot include the bombmaker suspected of designing the explosive used in the failed Christmas airliner bombing.

He's a key operative in al-Qaida's offshoot in Yemen.
