OREGON CITY, Ore Authorities say a police officer has been shot while responding to a house fire in Oregon City, south of Portland.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office wrote on its Twitter feed Sunday afternoon that the Oregon City police department responded to the fire, and shots were fired upon arrival. There was no immediate word about the condition of the officer, who was flown to a hospital.

Clackamas Fire District spokesman Brandon Paxton says crews were waiting until the scene was secured before starting to fight the fire. He says some people were being evacuated from the area.
