Officials say winds fanning a number of Oklahoma wildfires are easing today.

Dozens of homes have been burned and hundreds of people were told to evacuate. The state is monitoring close to a dozen fires. One fire may have been set.

Temperatures up to 113 degrees aren't helping crews struggling to contain the fires which swept through rural woodlands north and south of Oklahoma City yesterday. Nearly a dozen fires are being monitored.

Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel says at least 25 homes and a daycare center burned in a fire that may have been deliberately set near Luther, a town about 20 miles northeast of Oklahoma City.

Deputies are investigating reports that newspapers set on fire were thrown from a pickup truck.

About 40 miles south near Norman, a fire has burned at least 25 structures, and another 40 structures were destroyed by a blaze near Tulsa.
