HOUSTON A 77-year-old pilot was killed Sunday when his plane went down in San Jacinto County, the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed. One witness said the plane was just breaking into pieces before it fell out of the sky.
The pilot had taken off from an airport in Shepherd just before 1:30 p.m. Shortly after takeoff the single-engine plane started having problems, then went down.
“It started barreling a little bit, then it started nose-diving straight down and landed in the back of the pasture,” said Brook Haley. “And the wing carried over to the back corner and we seen his hand and a little bit of blood, and the other man came and checked his pulse to make sure he was OK and tried to get a response from him but he didn’t.”
James Goldsmith, of New Caney, was killed in the crash.
Goldsmith’s wife and son rushed to the scene just minutes after the crash.
The FAA and the NTSB are assisting with the investigation.
