Two people are injured after being struck by lightning in Eastern Montgomery County.

According to emergency management officials, around 7p.m. a man in his twenties and a nine-year-old girl were both struck by lightning.

The two were struck at a soccer field at Crippen Elementary in New Caney.

KHOU-TV in Houston reports the man was coaching a soccer game at the school when he was injured.

Witnesses said the 21-year-old coach was unconscious, but paramedics were able to get him breathing and transported him by ambulance to a Houston hospital.

The 9-year-old girl was transported to a hospital where officials say she is expected to be okay.

A school district spokesperson tells KHOU-TV, the team is not a part of the school district and was just using the field to practice.

After the incident the rest of the children were taken inside the school’s cafeteria to wait for their parents to pick them up.
