WALLER COUNTY, Texas --A small helicopter crash in Waller County left one man dead Saturday, according to authorities.
The incident happened about 12:15 p.m. near the intersection of FM 1458 and Clemons Switch Road.
Deputies said a witness contacted authorities after he saw a helicopter in the sky emitting black smoke.
Upon their arrival, authorities followed the smoke and eventually found a helicopter on fire with the victim stuck inside. He died at the scene.
Authorities said the victim, William Worthington, had built the chopper from a kit at home. Neighbors said the helicopter had been seen behind Worthington’s house for two or three days before the crash.
Authorities continued to investigate.
