Comments on TTC Due Wednesday

The time to get comments about the Trans Texas Corridor on the record in Austin is drawing to a close.

Wednesday is the last day you can go to TxDOT's special TTC website and let state leaders know what you think of the proposed superhighway.

Public hearings across the current study area wrapped up March 4, with stops in Huntsville, Navasota and this public meeting in Bryan.

Overwhelmingly, the comments were against the TTC, especially in Walker and Grimes counties, where hundreds turned out in protest of the multi-billion dollar proposed project.

Under the current, Tier One study that is underway, the corridor would come through Walker and Grimes County on its route, which starts in Texarkana and ends near Laredo.

Brazos County leaders have spoken a some local events asking TxDOT to consider altering its route and bringing it close to Bryan/College Station, which is one of the larger cities in Texas without interstate access.

A decision on whether to proceed with the project as is, alter it or scrap it is likely to come later this year. If they proceed with TTC, TxDOT would conduct a second tier of studies which would last a few years, complete with new environmental studies and public hearings.
