Texas Man Shoots Church Pastor and Wife, Police Say

DENTON, Texas (AP) - Authorities say an 18-year-old man shot a
pastor and his wife as they were getting ready to leave for church
services. The man apparently blamed them for his breakup with his
girlfriend.
18-year-old Arturo Silva Junior is being held at the Denton
County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly
weapon. Bond was set at $250,000. It was unclear if he had an
attorney.
A Denton County sheriff's deputy says Silva shot 32-year-old
Pedro Beltrain and his 33-year-old wife, Zaida, as they were
getting ready to leave for church with Silva's former girlfriend.
The 27-year-old ex-girlfriend had recently obtained a restraining
order against Silva.
The pastor was shot in the arm and his wife in the mouth. Both
are in stable condition at a hospital in Dallas.
Silva fled before deputies arrived, leaving a .22-caliber pistol
on the porch. Deputies also found six spent shells on the ground.
Silva turned himself in Monday.
