Search continues at West Texas polygamist compound
ELDORADO, Texas (AP) - The Department of Public Safety says the
search continues today of a West Texas polygamist compound.
So far the state has taken custody of at least 401 children
peacefully removed from the Yearning for Zion Ranch nearly
The raid began last week after a call from a 16-year-old girl
who alleged abuse.
Merrill Jessop oversees the ranch and is a presiding elder in
the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Jessop told the Salt Lake Tribune that officers conducting the
search are collecting cell phones "as fast as they can find
Jessop says the men are becoming worried about their wives and
children because they have no Internet or television access.
Jessop says there needs to be a public outcry that goes far and
He says, quote: "What's coming we don't know. The hauling off
of women and children matches anything in Russia or Germany."
