Man gets 4 years in prison over toddler snatching near Axtell

WACO, Texas (AP) - A judge in Waco has ordered four years in
prison for a parolee who snatched his estranged girlfriend's
toddler on New Year's Day.
Officials say the youngster -- wearing just a diaper -- suffered
scratches as 24-year-old Ryan Keith Hopkins of Axtell carried her
through a wooded area.
The Waco Tribune-Herald reports Hopkins gave up when the baby's
grandfather stuck a pair of needle-nose pliers into the suspect's
Court records indicate Hopkins smelled of alcohol during the
incident in which he was accused of pulling knife. He allegedly was
upset about the woman's relationship with another man.
Authorities say Hopkins, who is not the father of the child,
pleaded guilty yesterday to injury to a child with a deadly weapon.
The state-jail felony was enhanced to a third-degree felony
because of an earlier drug-related conviction.
