TYLER, Texas (AP) - State troopers arrested an East Texas
constable today on seven felony counts of tampering with a
government document and three counts of official oppression.
Smith County Precinct 1 Constable Henry Jackson was being held
in the Smith County Jail in lieu of a $425,000 bond.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says Jackson has been part
of an ongoing investigation into the private security company he
owns.
DPS Trooper Jean Dark says the investigators found that deputy
constables hired by Jackson's private security firm often wore
their constable uniforms while working for Jackson's firm.
Court documents listed 72 items of evidence.
In addition, troopers seized bags of what was thought to be
marijuana confiscated during drug arrests, a bottle of unidentified
liquid, four computers, phone rosters, calendars, time sheets, file
folders and e-mail correspondence from the constable's office.
