BAYTOWN, Texas (AP) - Joseph Hugh Allen --- a former state
representative known for his battle to restore ethics to state
government ---- has died.
Crespo and Jirrels Funeral and Cremation Services says Allen
died Saturday from complications related to Alzheimer's disease. He
The Baytown Democrat may have been best known for being one of
the "Dirty Thirty." The group of legislators fought for ethics
reform in 1971 and led to the passage of new rules.
After leaving the Legislature, Allen went to work for Getty Oil
Company in 1980. Then joined Northern Natural Gas Company, which
later became Enron Corp. He retired from Enron as Vice President of
Government Affairs for The Americas in July of 2001.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kitty Allen, three
daughters and three sons-in-law.
Services will be this afternoon at Faith Presbyterian Church in
Baytown. Burial will be Wednesday afternoon at the Texas State
Cemetery in Austin.
