SAN MARCOS, Texas Two Central Texas police officers have been charged in unrelated drug and aggravated assault cases.
San Marcos police Chief Howard Williams says Cpl. James Palermo and Officer David Keith Amerson are on paid administrative leave.
Amerson was arrested Wednesday on two counts of obtaining controlled substances by fraud. Investigators say Amerson used prescriptions from multiple doctors to illegally obtain painkillers.
Palermo was arrested Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault by a public servant. He's charged with injuring a Texas State University student in May by throwing her to the ground near a traffic stop. She suffered a concussion. Charges of obstruction, resisting arrest and public intoxication were dropped after police reviewed patrol car video.
Palermo and Amerson are free on bail. Both couldn't immediately be reached for comment Thursday.
