When the doors open this fall--students at Arthur Davilla Middle School can officially call themselves a Texan.

"The process for choosing school colors and a mascot is always exciting," says Sandy Farris, Director of Communications for Bryan Independent School District.

A committee of faculty, parents and students chose the Texans. Farris says, in order to come up with an identity for the new mascot, the district looked into using the same logo as the Houston Texans.

"So to avoid any problems with that, we contacted the Houston Texans Organization and received permission to use the logo," says Farris.

Although Texans is the official mascot, the school is required to have a second logo in order to have school T-shirts for students and faculty.

Farris says this is necessary because they can't sell an NFL licensed mascot or logo unless it is NFL licensed-wearing apparel.

"We did things the right way, we got permission. The Houston Texans were happy to let us use their logo and we are thrilled that they allowed it."

The new school will be the fourth middle school for Bryan ISD.
