SHILOH, Texas (AP) - An elderly Shiloh man collapsed and died
while trying to protect his property from a grass fire.
Limestone County Sheriff Dennis Wilson says heat may have
contributed to the man's death late Wednesday. The victim's name
was not immediately released.
Wilson says it appears the death was from natural causes.
County emergency coordinator Matt Groveton says the man was
trying to plow a fire line to stop the blaze from spreading.
Witnesses say the man, believed to be in his late 80s, had been
on a tractor. His wife later found him slumped over the wheel of
The National Weather Service says the temperature reached 100 in
Central Texas on Wednesday afternoon.
Shiloh is about 40 miles east of Waco.
