EL PASO, Texas (AP) - An anonymous tip led to the rescue of four
young children who were found alone in a padlocked trailer.
Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office on yesterday
arrested and charged Ivonne Adriana Vasquez, the 28-year-old mother
of three of the children, with four counts of abandoning and
endangering a child.
The fourth child was her 9-year-old niece, the oldest of the
children. The youngest was 2-months-old.
The El Paso Times reports El Paso County Sheriff's Office
spokesman Deputy Jesse Tovar said a deputy got in the trailer,
which was padlocked from the outside, by breaking a window and
crawling through it.
Tovar said the stench of a clogged toilet and dirty diapers
inside the trailer, which was strewn with clothes and dishes,
caused deputies to gag.
An ambulance crew checked the children at the scene.
The sisters were turned over to family members while their
cousin returned to her family.
Deputies said an investigation by Family and Protective Services
is under way.
