EDINBURG, Texas (AP) - A nearly half-ton South Texas woman
charged in the death of her 2-year-old nephew will await trial at
home.
Prosecutors say the Hidalgo County Jail lacks a cell big enough
or medical resources suitable for Mayra Rosales.
A state district judge yesterday agreed not to jail Rosales, who
weighs nearly 1,000 pounds, provided she wear a global positioning
system tracker until her trial.
The 27-year-old woman was charged with capital murder in the
March 18th death of Eliseo Gonzalez Jr. Prosecutors say the toddler
was hit at least twice in the head while in the care of the
bedridden Rosales.
Prosecutors say the boy's 20-year-old mother, Jamie Rosales,
left the toddler with his bedridden aunt even though she knew that
the woman was incapable of caring for him. She faces a count of
felony injury to a child, punishable by life in prison.
