MIDLAND, Texas (AP) - A West Texas school bus driver is charged
with driving under the influence after allegedly rear-ending a car
while driving three pre-kindergarten students to school today.
Midland police booked 50-year-old Susan Spear into the Midland
County's jail on three felony charges of driving while intoxicated
with a child under 15 years of age. No bond has been set.
Authorities allege she drove her bus into the back of a
Volkswagen Jetta while transporting the students, a teacher's
assistant and a bus monitor to the West Early Childhood Center in
Midland. The students were each about 4 years old. No one was
injured.
Midland school district spokesman Woodrow Bailey says Spear's on
administrative leave pending the completion of a police and
district investigation.
