The Texas death row inmate who prompted a statewide prison lockdown is now considered suicidal.

Richard Tabler has been moved to a prison psychiatric unit after a strip of bedsheet was found tied to a fixture in his cell.

Officials say Tabler used a smuggled cell phone to make threatening calls to a legislator.

His mother and sister were arrested in the alleged phone scheme.

In light of the incident, Texas prison officials have cracked down on contraband.

A search of the system's 155,000 inmates turned up 13 cell phones and 12 chargers.
