HOUSTON (AP) A volunteer service award started by former President George H.W. Bush has honored a Houston furniture businessman and philanthropist.

Bush on Monday paid tribute to Jim McIngvale (MAK'-uh-vayl) with a Points of Light Award. The businessman known as "Mattress Mack" received the 5,115th daily Points of Light for his community service and charitable contributions.

The ceremony took place at Bush's office in Houston. Former first lady Barbara Bush was also on hand to praise McIngvale for his volunteer efforts and dedication to helping others.

McIngvale has been active in supporting the Salvation Army, medical research and assisting victims of natural disasters worldwide.
