Bryan-College Station Strong Job Growth Among Best-Forbes Magazine

What happens in Bryan-College Station does not stay in Bryan-College Station! It's no secret that the Brazos Valley has been able to shrug off much of what has been happening in the country economically. Now the rest of the country knows. Forbes magazine has released its list of best cities for jobs in the U.S. and the BCS metro area comes in number 10 among small cities. The local area shares the impressive ranking with many other Texas cities.

Number 10 this year, number 74 last. Authors of the list give these reasons for the jump locally: jobs in the education and health sector, which increased 6.5 percent. Government jobs in the Brazos Valley grew 4.3 percent while retail employment opportunities increased 3.2 percent. Texas A&M dominance in the market being the biggest economic driver.

The cities were categorized according to size – big, mid-sized and small – and the top ten of cities of each category were featured in the Forbes article.

The study attributes the energy industry for state’s success.

The Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood area raced 34 slots up the list to number 5 due largely in part to the region's diverse employment.

The number of government jobs in the Bell County Area grew by 5.8 percent while the number of health and education jobs grew by nearly 10 percent.
