HOUSTON (AP) - The state's top prosecutor has sued several
foreclosure rescue companies accusing them of running mortgage
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott filed a lawsuit against
Houston-based Excel Loss Mitigation Inc. and United Servicing LLC.
Also sued were some related assets held by Bell Investments &
Developments LLC and key directors Frank Bell, David Bell and David
They're accused of taking money from financially troubled
homeowners and promising to help them with their mortgages but
doing nothing for them.
The Houston Chronicle reports the attorney general is seeking
restitution for customers harmed by the companies along with civil
penalties of up to $20,000 for each violation of the Texas
Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
A state district judge temporarily froze the assets of the
companies and the three men.
There was no listing for Excel Loss Mitigation and a telephone
number for United Servicing didn't seem to be working today.
Court records didn't list any attorneys for the companies or the
three company directors.
