HEATH, Texas -- A bus carrying 18 members of a swim team, their coach and a driver ended up in the shallow edge of a pond after going off a road in the Dallas area.

A spokeswoman for Rockwall-Heath High School, Sheri Fowler, said the students were returning from an aquatics center Monday morning.

The bus had been on Farm-to-Market Road 549, about 20 miles northeast of Dallas.

Fowler told The Associated Press that the students and coach walked off the bus through the back door, which initially was not in the water, and no one had obvious signs of injury.

She says five students were taken to hospitals, as a precaution, to be checked for head and neck injuries. Fowler says the bus driver was also taken to a hospital.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.
