A Groves police investigator told The Associated Press "it's amazing that she made it."
A grand jury Thursday indicted Jessie Lee Anderson, 37, on felony counts of injury to the elderly and aggravated assault. His sister, Katherine Basham, 56, was also attacked.
Anderson was in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on Friday on $50,000 bail.
Authorities say Basham and Anderson were arguing Oct. 12 about his drinking when she called police. Their grandmother, Alma Miller Williams, tried to break up the fight. Both women have since recovered.
Groves is a city of nearly 15,000, located about 90 miles east of Houston.
