Family of Four Dies In Highway Accident

LUFKIN, Texas (AP) - Authorities say four people traveling from Austin to East Texas died when the van they were traveling in collided with an 18-wheeler.

The Department of Public Safety says in a report the accident happened late Wednesday night when a Dodge van apparently made a U-turn and was hit by the oncoming truck.

Todd Szymankiewiez, 35, of Austin, his 4-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter were pronounced dead at the scene. Dakota Klein, 14, of Pflugerville also died at the scene.

Two others in the van were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
