TEXAS CITY, Texas (AP) - Police say the granddaughter of a blind woman found stabbed to death in her Texas City apartment has been
charged in her murder.

Sgt. Joe Stanton says 19-year-old Cheretta Smith was arrested at her Galveston home Friday.

She was being held Saturday on $250,000 bond in Texas City jail. A jail official did not have an attorney listed for her.

Fifty-seven-year-old Theretta Gayden Miller was found stabbed several times Feb. 13.

Smith had told police she went by her grandmother's apartment to check on her and discovered the body. Stanton told the Galveston
County Daily News that a man who was with Smith called his mother who then called police about the discovery of the body.
