DALLAS - Gov. Rick Perry is urging donations for a proposed
$85 million education center to accompany the Vietnam Veterans
Memorial in Washington.
Perry, who served as a pilot in the Air Force, joined fellow
veterans at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Wednesday.
The GOP governor, who is seeking re-election in November, says
he will ask the 2011 Legislature to make an unspecified
approproation for the center.
Perry's office says the names of 3,416 individuals from Texas
are on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
Perry says "we know the names, but now we must ensure that we
never forget their faces."
Perry was introduced by Jay Kimbrough, a former Marine who
served in Vietnam and also is an ex-chief of staff to the governor.
