DALLAS (April 28, 2010)—Police were searching for another day Wednesday for Jose Fernando Corona, 49, of the Dallas suburb of Lewisville, who’s charged with murder in the death and decapitation of his wife.
Authorities said a mail carrier found Corona’s wife, Maria, 44, dead in the street Monday near her home.
A bloody trail ran from her headless body to the house.
Neighbors reported hearing the sound of a chainsaw shortly before the body was found and police discovered two chainsaws nearby.
Both had blood and tissue on them and one was still running.
Lewisville Police Capt. Kevin Deaver said the couple had been having marital problems.
Deaver said Jose Corona has no prior criminal history.
Police asked state and federal authorities for help in finding him.
He was initially thought to be driving a 2005 gold Toyota Sequoia with Texas license 247-DVH, but now it appears he stole a 1992 Ford Ranger truck that he took on a test drive after his wife was killed.
The truck’s Texas license plate number is AA2-4004.
