KILLEEN, Texas (AP) - Killeen police say a 7-year-old girl has died after being accidentally shot in the face at a residence.

Police spokeswoman Carroll Smith on Wednesday said the death is under investigation. A police statement says the preliminary investigation indicates the victim was accidentally shot Tuesday night by a sibling.

Smith says the critically injured girl was transported to a hospital, where she died.

Smith told The Associated Press that the children's mother was at home at the time of the shooting.

The victim's name was not immediately released Wednesday. Further details on the sibling also were not released.
