CLEVELAND, Texas (AP) - Child Protective Services has taken custody of three brothers after one, who is 8, allegedly was forced to stay alone in a small, country church and use a paint can for a toilet.
KHOU-TV reports the mother is under investigation and that she
and her sons lived in Liberty County with the pastor and his wife. The families apparently are related.
A number listed for Bethel Baptist Church in Cleveland, 40 miles northeast of Houston, was disconnected Wednesday.
An affidavit says the boy told an employee at a nearby business that his mother forced him to stay alone in the building for several days. Police last week found the boy "dirty, bare-footed and emaciated."
The affidavit says the mother allegedly put her son in the church, with limited water services, for being mean and not doing his homework.
