An appeals court has overturned the convictions of two east Texas men accused of grooming children as young as 5 to perform in sex shows as part of the so-called Mineola Swinger's Club.
The 14th Court of Appeals in Houston on Thursday ordered new trials for Patrick "Booger Red" Kelly and Jamie Pittman.
A jury found Kelly guilty of engaging in organized criminal activity. Pittman was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Both were sentenced to life in prison in 2008.
The three-judge panel agreed with Kelly's claim that he was not allowed to present a proper defense.
The judges said, in Pittman's case, "prejudicial evidence" of other sexual offenses allegedly committed by him and others was wrongly allowed at trial.
Mineola is about 85 miles east of Dallas.
