HARLINGEN, Texas Police say the deaths of an ailing woman and her husband whose bodies were found in their burned South Texas house apparently involved a murder-suicide.

Harlingen police Sgt. Dave Osborne says it appears a man believed to be homeowner Art Cohan killed his spouse before setting the fire early Monday. Investigators say Cohan allegedly suffocated his wife, Debbie, to ease her suffering amid her medical problems.

Ages of the pair and further details on the woman's medical history weren't immediately released.

Police say Cohan sent emails to friends, lawyers and others before the fiery explosion. Osborne says letters, packages and surveillance footage have been recovered.

Police say one of the messages indicated Cohen may have doused his wife's body with gasoline and set the fire.
