A 17-year-old Huntsville man was arrested and charged with murder in the death of his grandmother Monday.
Police said they found the body of Vera Martha Starkey, 68, in her home in the Windsor Lakes Subdivision – a gated retirement community near Conroe—around 10 a.m.
They were met by a co-worker who said she’d gone into the victim’s home and found Starkey unresponsive.
Police said Starkey had suffered severe blunt-force trauma.
Working from evidence gathered at the scene and information from family members, investigators determined that Starkey’s grandson, Brock Andrew Starkey, was the last person seen with the victim.
Family members said they hadn’t seen Brock Starkey for two days, so investigators issued a missing persons broadcast for him, including a description of his vehicle.
Around 4 p.m. Monday, a Hudspeth County Sheriff's Deputy pulled over Starkey east of El Paso and arrested him after an alert was sent out.
According to jail documents, Brock Starkey lists his residency in Huntsville.
Starkey was being held Tuesday in the Hudspeth County Jail on $500,000 bond. Conroe police were making arrangements to return him to Montgomery County.
They said the investigation is ongoing.
