Gunmen burst into a bar called "Desesperados" in Ciudad Juarez across the border from El Paso early Sunday and opened fire, killing five and wounding nine others.
Authorities offered no motive for the attack.
State prosecutor spokesman Fidel Banuelos said the nine wounded survivors were in serious condition at hospitals in Chihuahua State.
More than 4,000 people have been killed in Ciudad Juarez in drug-related violence in the last two years.
