Investigators are trying to identify a badly decomposed body found in West Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says law officers Sunday removed the remains from an undisclosed location in Scurry County near Snyder. Trooper Sparky Dean says further details on the site have not been made public as investigators seek to preserve the scene.

A person whose name hasn't been released reported finding the remains Saturday afternoon. Officials have not said the possible gender or age of the person. Dean says an autopsy has been ordered.

Snyder is about 80 miles southeast of Lubbock.
