WACO, Texas (AP) A Central Texas justice of the peace has resigned after pleading guilty to two felony counts of records tampering in a mileage reimbursement scam.

A prosecutor has recommended probation for McLennan County Justice of the Peace Jean Laster Boone and repayment of about $5,100.

Laster Boone, who was arrested in September, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Waco. She'll be sentenced in December.

Investigators say Laster Boone, who's been a JP since 1999, submitted falsified mileage reimbursement forms to collect the maximum $360 per month allowed by the county. The payments are for per-mile reimbursement for using personal vehicles for county business.

Texas Rangers assisted in the investigation that began last summer when some employees reported Laster Boone directed them to falsify mileage documents.
