LUFKIN, Texas (AP) One toddler has died while another survived after both were found in an East Texas swimming pool.
Officials say a 20-month-old girl, Amarie Rodriguez, died Sunday at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. A 2-year-old boy, Ayden Bentley, was hospitalized in good condition Monday. Both children are from the Lufkin area.
The Angelina County Sheriff's Office says the children were discovered in the water Saturday morning by the boy's father. Lt. Pete Maskunas says the man and his girlfriend were house-sitting with the children at a Lufkin home owned by his relatives. The woman's daughter died in the accident.
The sheriff's office and Child Protective Services are investigating. No charges were immediately filed.
