Closings Set in Texas Courthouse Killing Case

Jurors will soon begin deciding the fate of a Houston man convicted of capital murder for a bystander's death during a shooting rampage outside a Texas courthouse last year.

Closing arguments in the punishment phase of Bartholomew Granger's trial are set for Tuesday in Galveston.

A Galveston County jury convicted Granger last week in the death of 79-year-old Minnie Ray Sebolt. Investigators say he was trying last year to shoot his daughter outside the Jefferson County Courthouse in Beaumont after she testified against him in a sex assault case.

On Monday, Granger called his case a "mockery of justice" and a "lynching" during a profanity-filled tirade that resulted in his temporary removal from court.

Prosecutors are seeking a death penalty for Granger, who also could get life imprisonment without parole.
