DALLAS (AP) Prosecutors and defense attorneys continued their battle over whether Franklin Davis should die for killing his children's baby-sitter.
The Dallas County jury is hearing penalty phase evidence after finding Davis guilty of capital murder for killing 16-year-old Shania Gray to silence her from testifying that he raped her.
On Wednesday, prosecutors presented a former Davis girlfriend who also is the mother of one of his children. Jennifer Debrelle testified that Davis abused her verbally and physically during their relationship.
Defense attorneys presented a St. Louis police detective who testified about Davis' traumatic childhood, early death of his father and murder of his mother.
Jurors could opt against death for life imprisonment without parole eligibility. Testimony is to continue Thursday.
