EL PASO, Texas (AP) - An El Paso County commissioner who's running for the Texas House has been charged in a federal drug investigation.
A spokeswoman for the Drug Enforcement Administration says Willie Gandara Jr. was arrested Wednesday night on drug trafficking charges. Diana Apodaca declined to immediately provide further details in the ongoing investigation.
Gandara did not immediately respond to a message for comment Thursday from The Associated Press.
He is the son of former Socorro Mayor Willie Gandara Sr., who was charged in 2010 in an FBI public corruption investigation. Voters last May removed the elder Gandara from office.
Gandara Jr. is seeking the state House District 75 seat.
