A former Texas Capitol staffer has been convicted in a 2011 hit-and-run that left a pedestrian dead.
Closing arguments are scheduled Friday in the penalty phase for 25-year-old Gabrielle Nestande of Austin. A jury in Austin on Thursday convicted Nestande of criminally negligent homicide.
Nestande worked for state Rep. Wayne Christian of Center at the time of the May 2011 accident that killed 30-year-old Courtney Griffin.
Griffin's body was discovered in a driveway. Officers located a nearby car with a broken windshield. The vehicle was traced to Nestande, who faces a sentence ranging from probation to 10 years in prison.
Christian failed in his 2012 re-election bid.
