HOUSTON (AP) A former University of Houston assistant basketball coach is suing the school claiming it wanted to pay him without performing any work.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Michael Young filed suit this week alleging he was reassigned to a community service role within the athletic department when he was actually being paid "to sit at home."

Young also claims he was told his contract was only good as long as his son, Joseph, continued to play for the school.

Joseph Young announced last week that he was transferring to Oregon.

Michael Young was the school's director of basketball operations. He played for the Cougars during their "Phil Slama Jama" era.

The school issued a statement in which it said it was looking forward to "vigorously defending its actions."
